Just in case you missed it…
It’s taken me far to long to find some way to tell others about this album and then also tell people about one of my favourite films released in the past 10 years. This album is so beautiful that I find myself thinking about it at odd times in the day, wondering if I heard it right, and then having this immediate urge to hear it.
The most tragically fantastic song is “Falling Slowly.” Hansard whales for whomever to, “Take that sinking boat/And point it home” because, “We still got time.” It’s amazing how well controlled his voice is, but the hook starts at the opening when he sings that “I don’t now you/But I want you/All the more for that.” It’s so soft yet so powerful at the same time that I can’t help but love it.
“When Your Minds Made Up” is another heartbreaking song that I can’t help but tell you to listen to immediately. Hansard bellows, “There’s no point even talking/When your minds made up.” But it’s the ending that hooks me, “So/If you want something/Just call…call/And I’ll come running.” It’s perfect. It’s every relationship that I’ve ever ended. He’s saying that you’re not good for him, that you guys shouldn’t be together, but if you need him call, because he’ll always love you.
I discovered this glory through the film “Once” which is the best musical film to be released, in my opinion ever. It isn’t your typical musical where people dance in unison to perfectly tuned instruments and toned voices. The camera is shaky and more often then not, it’s only Hansard and Irglova in a scene, harmonizing beautifully. Get the movie, get the CD.
Buy it, you won’t regret it.
