After a little photo shoot with the guys and the rest of the giveaway winners, Josh walked myself and my accompaniment Brett back out to the stage where we snuck in a spot right by the front. After great performances by Weatherbox, Eli Reed and The True Loves, and Manchester Orchestra, we had pushed our way out to the center in front of the stage.

The 6 members of Say Anything marched onto stage and the crowd went absolutely nuts! The pit finally packed full and tons of pushing ensued. They opened with “Skinny Mean Man” and went right into “No Soul” from there. I thought for a split second they would actually play IDOTG in order. But third they played “Alive With The Glory of Love” in which the crowd got to duplicate the music video and sing like little 12 year olds locked away at camp.

Finally, Jake got the crowd to sing Happy Birthday to Max, during which Max stood humbly back on the stage with a huge smile on his face. I enjoyed sharing my birthday with such a talented musician. After this is about when the crowd picked up. I believe the following song performed was “Shiksa”, and surprisingly, I had the hardest most violent time in the crowd during this song.

After researching into the Smashing Pumpkins cover they had been playing on this tour and discovering one of the best albums I’ve ever heard (MACHINA), I was quite ecstatic when they broke into the “Stand Inside Your Love” cover. But the best part of the show was by far when Max grabbed an acoustic guitar and Jake requested that we all take out cell phones, lighters, or anything that had a light, adding that “this is in old one.” Once they let us know they were about to play “Walk Through Hell” the crowd ceased their rowdy moshing to hold up their cell phones and belt their hearts out. It seemed like every last person knew every single word.

After a few more songs of IDOTG and an energizing little encore, all the members of the opening bands joined Say Anything on stage for “Belt.” The guys finished up with the best possible closer choice “Admit It!!!” and Max didn’t hesitate to request that everyone be even crazier than they had been, begging for three mosh pits instead of one. Instead, the mosh pit tripled in size and before the song even started I got knocked ten feet to the right into a safe zone. Everyone went completely crazy during this song, and when it ended there wasn’t a single person in the crowd who had a single dry spot on them. Everyone smelled, everyone was drenched in sweat, and everyone was cheering. It was the epitome of a rock pit and the band was well deserving of it.
